The Morphological Study of the Massa Intermedia

Abstract
A gray commissure referred to as the massa intermedia (i,Z.I.) links the two thalami across the third ventricle.
Such a M.I. has a variety in occurrence, location, size and configulation without any definite neurological or neurophysiological function.
In point of the neurosurgical fields, the M.I. has a great importance on pneumoencephalogram or ventriculogram performed prior to a stereotaxic surgery or diagnostic procedure of other ventricular abnormality.
Should the M.I. had an unusual location or an abnormally large size, the pneumoencephalogram or the ventriculogram has the difficulty in the diagnosis and treatment.
In our observation, the occurrence of the M.I. shows 9o%, the most frequent location in anterosuperior and central region, the average size of horizontally 7.2mm and vertically 5.6mm, and the most frequent configuration of oval and circular type.
